RECAP + HIGHLIGHTS: Inter Toronto vs. Pacific FC | September 07, 2026

Inter Toronto and Pacific FC left York Lions Stadium with a point each on Wednesday night after a roller coaster of a game finished 3-3. Pacific took the lead three times on the evening, but Toronto managed to strike back every time to salvage a draw.

This match was about as must-win as a September midweek game can get for both clubs, with Pacific knowing they could be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend. Inter Toronto, likewise fighting for a playoff spot, knew this week's stretch of back-to-back home fixtures could make or break their season as they begin to make up their games in hand.

Despite the quick turnaround from last Saturday's 1-1 draw in Hamilton, Toronto boss Mauro Eustáquio fielded the same starting 11 that played well against Forge. That meant youngsters Kai Campos and Ty Clarke remained in the team as goalkeeper and right winger, respectively.

Pacific boss Terry Dunfield didn't tinker much with his team, who also played on Saturday (a 0-0 draw in Ottawa). He swapped Eleias Himaras in goal, and added captain Josh Heard at right-back as Aidan Daniels came into midfield.

The visiting Tridents, playing much more confidently than most last-place sides might, came out of the gates strong, and found the opening goal less than 15 minutes in.

Christian Greco-Taylor intercepted a wide ball as Toronto attempted to break forward, and the Pacific full-back launched a quick transition. He found Yann Toualy, who played a hard pass between defenders to an on-rushing Ronan Kratt. The striker, just inside the box, needed only to stick his foot out, and he redirected the pass with a deft touch to beat Campos and put Pacific in the lead.

The game was relatively disjointed, with neither side holding the ball for long as they both sought to play forward quickly. Still, the tempo was high, and both goalkeepers had to make tricky saves in the first half.

Coming close to scoring wouldn't be good enough for Inter Toronto, though.

With his team trailing at halftime, Eustáquio decided to make two substitutions and change his team's formation. He brought both wing-backs — Juan Córdova and Carlos Guzmán — and shifted to a back four, adding Kembo Kibato and Luca Accettola to the mix.

The two substitutes rewarded Eustáquio almost instantly.

Kibato tied the game just 10 minutes into the second half, as he got a touch on the end of a well-placed cross by Ariel Almagro.

Pacific would answer immediately, though; they won the ball high up the pitch as Toronto failed to clear it, and Kratt played forward to Toualy this time. The winger took a couple of strides into space and floated a long-distance strike into the far corner to restore the lead.

Again though, Toronto responded. Moments later, Accettola matched Kibato by scoring a goal of his own, pouncing on an open ball in the box brought down expertly for him by Tomasz Skublak.

"Kembo and Luca are energetic players," Eustáquio explained postmatch. "We know what situation we're in right now, and there was no point for me to keep a back line of five, so we've been training the back four. Kembo is an offensive left back, gets into the box, and Luca is an energy ball. ... I thought by putting an extra man there in the middle we'd cause a little bit more, we'd be closer for second balls, and it went our way."

The game's frantic pace did slow down after that quick flurry of goals, but both sides clearly still felt they could find a winner. It remained an end-to-end affair; Ty Clarke challenged the goal at one end, and Marco Bustos came close at the other.

So it continued, with both sides happy to go toe-to-toe with a wide-open, direct style. Luke Singh played hero for Toronto with a courageous sliding block to stop a clear-cut chance for Daniels, and on the subsequent two passages of play both teams had to take a yellow card for a professional foul, such was the pace of each side's attack.

With 10 minutes to play, the tide turned back in Pacific's favour.

As the Tridents cycled a few attempts in and out of the penalty area, eventually Daniels brought the ball down inside the box, but Toronto midfielder Steffen Yeates, trying to challenge, instead kicked Daniels' foot, prompting the referee to give Pacific the penalty kick.

Alejandro Díaz smashed the penalty in at the right post, and Pacific went back in front.

Once again, however, Toronto found their equalizer. This time it was Luke Singh, as the defender rose above a crowd to get his head on an Ollie Bassett corner kick and make it 3-3.

It ended that way, but not for a lack of chances (plus a rash of yellow cards) in the eight minutes of stoppage time.

The remarkable second half offered plenty of entertainment value, between two sides desperate to edge the other and collect the full points. Despite how exhilarating the match was for a neutral, though, fans of both sides may be left disappointed.

Ultimately, a point is a point whether it's 3-3 or 0-0, and just one point doesn't much help Toronto or Pacific at this point of the season.

The Tridents can now be eliminated from playoff contention this weekend if they lose to Cavalry FC (or if other results go against them).

Toronto, meanwhile, have now made up one of their games in hand, and now find themselves 10 points out of a playoff spot.

The good news for them is they still have two fewer matches played than fourth-place Vancouver FC, and the Eagles come to town this Sunday.

Anything other than a win in that game, however, and their postseason dreams may be finished.

The Ivorian winger was the main catalyst for a thrilling attacking display, assisting Kratt's opening goal before scoring one of his own with a phenomenal strike. Toualy created three chances, played 12 passes in the final third, and won possession seven times.

Both sides now turn their attention to the weekend, with just a few days to recover before they both play at home on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Inter Toronto will remain at York Lions Stadium to host another B.C. foe, as Vancouver FC come to town (3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT).
