Form Guide: Who on CanWNT has impressed heading into European friendlies?

Mitchell Tierney

Canada NT

The Canadian women’s national team are in Europe this week for a pair of solid European tests against Switzerland and the Netherlands.

On Friday, they take on the Swiss in Lucerne (1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT), before heading to Nijmegen for a clash with the Netherlands (2:45 p.m. ET / 11:45 a.m. PT). Both matches are available live on OneSoccer.

Casey Stoney named a 24-player squad for this camp, with three first-time callups and some notable absences due to injury and availability, including Vanessa Gilles.

Here is how Canada’s squad has been performing in the lead-up to the penultimate national team camp of 2025:

Goalkeepers

Emily Burns, FC Nantes

The 28-year-old Burns gets her first call-up to the senior women’s national team on the back of a solid start to the season with FC Nantes in France. She has made 31 saves already in five matches, with Nantes sitting in fifth.

Sabrina D’Angelo, Aston Villa

Starting Aston Villa’s past four matches, D’Angelo has yet to lose this season, and allowed just one goal so far this campaign, while making 11 saves. She is undoubtedly in the best form among Canada’s goalkeepers going into this camp.

Kailen Sheridan, San Diego Wave

It has been another solid year for Sheridan in San Diego, with 23 starts, 63 saves, and five clean sheets. After the Wave went six matches without a win, they finally won back-to-back heading into the international break.

Defenders

Ashley Lawrence, Olympique Lyonnais

Lawrence has quickly broken into the Olympique Lyonnais team, making six appearances in all competitions between the French league and Champions League. The French giants have once again been dominant to begin the season, top of the table with a perfect 5-0 record.

Shelina Zadorsky, West Ham United

Zadorsky remains a consistent starter for West Ham this season, albeit on a club that have lost all six of their matches so far this season and sit bottom of the FA WSL. During Kadeisha Buchanan’s injury absence, Zadorsky has been a consistent starter under Stoney.

Jade Rose, Manchester City

Playing in her first professional season in the FA WSL, Rose has quickly impressed with Manchester City. The 22-year-old central defender has already made six appearances in all competitions, scoring her first professional goal in a 3-1 win over Everton in the League Cup.

Sydney Collins, Bay FC

After a nearly two-year absence from the Canadian women’s national team due to injury, Collins returns to the fold for this camp. She has made seven appearances for Bay FC, primarily as a central defender. She has six caps for Canada, but none since 2023.

Gabrielle Carle, Washington Spirit

Carle has generally been a constant in the Spirit line-up this season, although she made a rare substitute appearance this past weekend. With Riviere’s return, it will be interesting to see how Carle slots into the lineup over these two matches.

Jayde Riviere, Manchester United

After recovering from injury, Riviertre is off to an excellent start to her season with Manchester United. She already has a goal and an assist for a United team that are unbeaten through the first six matches of the campaign.

Zara Chavoshi, Orlando Pride

Chavoshi has played some important minutes down the stretch for Orlando Pride down the stretch, appearing in five of their past six matches and starting four of them.

Marie Levasseur, Montpellier

Levasseur has been a consistent call-up under Stoney recently and the 28-year-old has once again cracked this squad after a solid start to the season with Montpellier in France.

Midfielders

Marie-Yasmine Alidou, Portland Thorns

Alidou’s first season in the NWSL has seen her mostly used as a substitute role of late. Offensively, she has certainly struggled to produce like she did in Portugal, with her last goal contribution in NWSL coming back in May.

Jessie Fleming, Portland Thorns

After splitting time between substitute and starter, Fleming has locked down a starting spot in recent weeks. She is putting together a solid year, with a goal and four assists from midfield. She played an important role down the stretch in helping the Thorns qualify for the playoffs.

Julia Grosso, Chicago Stars

Despite playing for the last placed team in the NWSL, who have won just twice all season, Grosso is having a solid year, consistently starting and scoring two goals and added three assists for the Chicago Stars this season. Now she will look to use that form to continue to fight for a starting spot with Canada.

Emma Regan, AFC Toronto

Regan and AFC Toronto dominated the first NSL season, winning the Supporters’ Shield and finishing 12 points higher than any other club. She played every minute of the club’s season, scoring three goals and will be in great form coming into the national team camp to continue to fight for a starting spot.

Florianne Jourde, Paris Saint-Germain

Another exciting first-time callup, Jourde has impressed in her first professional season with one of the top clubs in world football. The 20-year midfielder has already made five appearances in the league, three of them starts, scoring her first professional goal against FC Nantes. She made a further two appearances in the UEFA Women’s Championship and is quickly one to watch at this camp and going forward.

Kaylee Hunter, AFC Toronto

At just 17, Hunter has earned her first call-up for the Canadian women’s national team on the back of a brilliant first professional season with AFC Toronto in the NSL. She scored 14 times this season, adding three assists. Hunter has an outstanding goalscoring record for Canada’s youth teams as well, and is one of the most exciting talents in the player pool.

Janine Sonis, Racing Louisville

As Racing Louisville push for the final NWSL playoff spot, Sonis has been outstanding. Splitting time between full back and wing this season, she has two goals and an assist in her past five matches, including a goal with past weekend against Gotham City. With three goals and five assists this year, Sonis is one of Canada’s most in-form attackers at club level.

Nichelle Prince, KC Current

Playing for a dominant KC Current side who comfortably won the NWSL Shield this season, Prince has been a fairly occasional starter. In 20 appearances, she has no goals and just one assist. With several exciting young attackers now pushing into the Canadian picture, Prince needs to find form for both club and country quickly.

Jordyn Huitema, Seattle Reign

In her fourth season in Seattle, the 24-year-old continues to lead the line for the Reign. With the exception of a strong stretch in August, however, the goals haven’t been plentiful this season, with just three, to go with an assist, in 21 appearances.

Adriana Leon, San Diego Wave

Leon is getting regular starts for San Diego in NWSL this season, and had an assist this past weekend, albeit off the bench, in a 6-1 win over the Chicago Stars. Leon has four goals and three assists in 25 appearances this season for San Diego.

Evelyne Viens, Roma

After missing large stretches of last year with injury, Viens is back and getting consistent starts for Roma in Italy, with an assist in three league appearances. She also scored for Roma against Real Madrid in a 6-2 loss in the UEFA women’s Champions League.

Olivia Smith, Arsenal

After being the first million pound transfer in women’s soccer history, Smith is off to a good start with defending European Champions Arsenal. She has made six appearances in the league, with a goal and an assists, and also appeared twice in the Champions League.

Holly Ward, Vancouver Rise

Ward has been a standout any time she has been on the pitch for Canada in recent camps. She concluded an excellent first professional season with the Vancouver Rise, scoring six goals and added five assists in 25 games. The dynamic winger comes into camp looking to further secure her spot on this team.
