Form Guide: Davies picks up big assist on return; Three Canadians reach UWCL semis
After picking up a pair of draws at BMO Field, Canadian men’s national team players were back with their club sides this week.
The women’s national team, meanwhile, is gearing up for the FIFA Series Brazil later this month, with several members of the squad earning big minutes over the past seven days.
Here is a look at all the notable performances from this past week:
Davies picks up a match-winning assist in return for Bayern
Canadian soccer fans breathed a collective sigh of relief as Alphonso Davies returned to the pitch on Saturday for Bayern Munich, and instantly looked like his former self.
Davies came on in the 88th minute, with Bayern trailing 2-1 against SC Freiburg. His side then equalized in the second minute of stoppage time, before Davies picked out Lennart Karl in the middle for the winner with a lovely low cross.
It was his second assist of the Bundesliga season in nine appearances. He also has another assist in the Champions League. Getting back to full 90-minute fitness will be key for Davies, but when he’s been on the pitch this year, he has been excellent.
After a UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid midweek, Bayern are back in Bundesliga action this weekend on OneSoccer, facing St. Pauli at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 11.
