Canada advance to knockout stage at 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

For the first time since 2018, Canada are off to the knockout stages of the U-17 women's World Cup.
Les Rouges did so in emphatic fashion, defeating Nigeria 4-1 in their tournament opener, and Samoa 6-0 on Friday. Canada have already set a record for goals at the competition, with 10. Their previous best was seven scored in both 2014 and 2018.
In their tournament opener, after Gabriel Istocki opened the scoring just twice minutes into the match, and Nigeria equalized in the 30th minute, Canada scored three goals late, courtesy of Melisa Kekic and a brace from Julia Amireh to secure a huge result.
Against Samoa, Canada displayed their attacking depth with five different goal scorers: Daniela Feria-Estrada, Olivia Chisholm, Lacey Kindel, Marika Martineau and Amireh. Canada's sixth goal on the day was credited as an own-goal in second half stoppage time.
Canada conclude the group stage on Saturday, when they take on France (12 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. PT), looking to go 3-0-0 and finish at the top of the group.
