Canadian Championship

The Vancouver Whitecaps have avenged their historic defeat of 2021 with a comprehensive and convincing win over Pacific FC in the 2023 Canadian Championship semi-finals, in a match where the result played second fiddle to the status of young star Ali Ahmed.

The 'Caps quickly went up 2-0 over Pacific in the first half, before Ahmed fell awkwardly and suffered an undisclosed but serious injury which halted play for nearly 20 minutes, while medical professionals took care of him. He was stretchered off and the Whitecaps have since offered an update:

Ali Ahmed is conscious and he is receiving further evaluation at the hospital. He is accompanied with a member of the club’s medical staff.

The club will provide an update when available.

It's an unfortunate blow for Ahmed, who scored the second after Julian Gressel opened the scoring. Simon Becher added a third in the second half, while flashing a pair of peace signs on each hand to mark no. 22 in tribute to his injured teammated.
